Red Moon Road is an energetic and endearing folk trio from Winnipeg combining an impressive mix of
song writing skills, musical chops and musicianship.
Their sound is big, and their shows feature a complex compilation of instruments: a roots drum kit split
between two band members, and an acoustic guitar rigged to also be the bass, along with a mandolin,
lap steel, banjo and organ (often played at the same time). Their unique sound is accompanied by the
soaring voice of frontwoman Sheena Rattai, a powerhouse vocalist.
The band, which also includes multi-instrumentalists Daniel Jordan and Daniel Péloquin-Hopfner, met at
the University of Winnipeg’s jazz program, and plucked their band name from a street sign. The
Waterloo Region Record describes their music as “[weaving] nature's imagery from snow to stars, as
they spin their life-and-love roots/folk yarns into multi-stringed aural gold.”
Red Moon Road has made three recordings, including their 2012 self-titled debut and 2013’s Tales from
the Whiteshell. Their third album, Sorrows and Glories, took the band on a tour through seven countries,
was Polaris Prize long listed and spent six weeks in the top spot on the national Earshot! Folk/Roots
charts.
Red Moon Road’s exceptional show is an impressive, choreographed spectacle that highlights the
group’s raw talent, juxtaposed with their polished showmanship.
