Another 700 new cases of influenza being reported across the province this week. There are now a total of 2478 lab-confirmed cases of the flu in Alberta. 1984 of those are influenza A and the majority of cases are being reported in the Calgary area. Here in the south zone, there are 138 confirmed cases of influenza A, up from 89 last week and 33 people have been admitted to hospital since August. There have now been 13 flu-related deaths across the province with eight in Calgary, two here in the South Zone, and three in Edmonton. Influenza statistics are posted to the AHS website every Thursday. Last week health officials said there are likely way more flu cases than those confirmed by AHS as many people who do get the flu stay at home and manage this illness themselves. - Tina Giesbrecht
