Canadian Travel Warning Issued For Playa Del Carmen, Mexico

An explosion recently on a passenger ferry south of Cancun and after a second device was apparently found on another ferry, the Canadian government has issued a travel warning for that part of Mexico.

The Canadian government is following the American's lead and issuing a travel warning for a popular resort city on the east coast on Mexico. The United States issued an advisory for Playa DFel Carmen, south of Cancun, on Wednesday citing a "security threat". Last month an explosion on a tourist ferry injured more than 20 people and another explosive device was apparently found on a ferry last week, however it didn't detonate. Some cruise lines have also cancelled excursions using ferry services in Playa del Carmen. - Pat Siedlecki

Canadian Government ALERT:

On March 7, 2018, the United States embassy in Mexico City issued a Security Alert advising American citizens that "?the U.S. Embassy in Mexico City received information about a security threat in Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo, Mexico. Effective immediately, U.S. Government employees are prohibited from traveling to Playa del Carmen until further notice. The U.S. Consular Agency in Playa del Carmen will be closed until further notice.?" Continue to exercise a high degree of caution in Playa del Carmen.
