The driver of a commercial vehicle has been charged after several power poles were ripped out in downtown Lethbridge Monday morning.
Lethbridge Police have laid a charge after a crane ripped out a number of power poles downtown Monday morning (Mar. 11).
Officers were called to the 800 block of 8 Street South around 8:30 am for a reported collision with a power pole. A commercial vehicle had driven with its crane partially extended. The crane got caught on overhead power lines, resulting in several power poles breaking and falling over.
One of the poles landed on a vehicle with a person seated inside the car. The occupant of the vehicle exited the vehicle when it was confirmed no power in the lines.
City Of Lethbridge Electric, Telus and Shaw Cable service crews attended.
There were no injuries, but there was some disruption of power and services limited to the area.
The driver of the commercial vehicle was charged for Fail to Ascertain Sufficient Space for Movement, under the Use of Highway and Rules of the Road Regulation.
