City Council Rejects Proposed Development Rules In Riverstone

There won't be any immediate changes to the Area Structure Plan or land use for the River Stone neighborhood in west Lethbridge.

There won't be any immediate changes to the Area Structure Plan or land use for the River Stone neighborhood in west Lethbridge.  City Council has defeated two bylaw amendments that called for changes to permit only single family homes in the area.  Councillor Jeff Coffman beleives a broader land use is needed that would permit secondary suites and possibly townhouse developments.  Coffman was among four members of Council who voted against the bylaw amendments on Monday.  Only Councillor Ryan Parker and Mayor Chris Spearman voted in favor, while two Councillors were absent and a  third declared a conflict.  Coffman adds he's hopeful City Administration will bring a new bylaw back before Council in the future that would provide a way to develop secondary suites. - Bryan Jeannotte
