Federal Minister Kent Hehr Resigns From Cabinet Amid Allegations of Inappropriate Sexual Remarks

A former employee of the Alberta legislature came forward Wednesday night, saying women were warned about being alone with Hehr and that he once called her "yummy."

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says he's accepted Kent Hehr's resignation from cabinet amid allegations he made inappropriate sexual remarks during his time as an Alberta MLA. Trudeau is calling the move a leave of absence pending an investigation and says Hehr's duties as Sport and Disabilities Minister will be performed by Science Minister Kirsty Duncan. A former employee of the Alberta legislature came forward Wednesday night (Jan 24) saying women were warned away from being alone with Hehr and that he once called her "yummy." In a statement released Thursday, Trudeau says his government takes any allegations of misconduct extremely seriously, adding it's important to support women who come forward. - Tina Giesbrecht
