Foothills MP Calling on Feds to Fix Canola Export Issues With China

Foothills MP John Barlow

John Barlow says Canadian farmers can not keep paying for the Liberals mistakes.

A southern Alberta Member of Parliament says the Prime Minister is failing Canadian canola farmers.

Recently, the Chinese government cancelled canola shipments from Canadian company Richardson International, which operates a major canola crushing plant here in Lethbridge.

Foothills MP John Barlow says the impacts these unfounded actions will have on Canada's agriculture industry are deeply concerning. Barlow say this calls into question Justin Trudeau's ongoing failure to handle Canada's relationship with China. "Canada’s Conservatives have requested an emergency meeting of the Agriculture and Agri-Food Committee to discuss the Trudeau government’s lack of action on this important file."

Barlow notes the issue at hand is not the quality of Canada’s world class canola, which China cites insect infestation concerns.

Approximately 40% of Canadian canola exports go to China.
