Hurricanes Beat Tigers 5-2 to Open 2017/18 WHL Season

A pair of goals by Jadon Joseph propelled the Lethbridge Hurricanes to an opening season victory against Medicine Hat.

Jadon Joseph scored twice as the Lethbridge Hurricanes opened the WHL season with a 5-2 victory over rival Medicine Hat Friday night in front of a sold out crowd at the ENMAX Centre. Giorgio Estephan, Dylan Cozens, and Zane Franklin scored the others. The Canes power play was the difference in this one going 2/5 while the Tigers finished the night 0/3 with the man advantage. It was a fairly close game with the Hurricanes slightly out shooting the Tigers 42-39. Stuart Skinner earned the win in goal for Lethbridge. Canes Announce New Captains

Prior to the game Friday, the Hurricanes announced Giorgio Estephan will be the team's Captain for this season. The Alternate Captains are Jordy Bellerive, Tanner Nagel, and Ryan Vandervlis. Estephan, who is playing in his final WHL season says it's a privilege to be named the Hurricanes 25th Captain in franchise history and he's very honoured. Head Coach Brent Kisio says it was an easy decision to select Estephan to wear the "C" this season, noting he's been in Lethbridge and part of the leadership group for a while.
