Lethbridge College in a Good Position to Accommodate Expanding Wind Industry in Alberta

Alberta moving forward with renewable energies is welcome news for Lethbridge College.

Alberta moving forward with renewable energies is welcome news for Lethbridge College. Three companies have recently been chosen by the provincial government to take on new projects near Pincher Creek, Medicine Hat and Hanna. About 600 megawatts of renewable wind power will be added to the grid through the approved projects, the result of the first round of Alberta's Renewable Electricity Program. The college's Interim Dean of the Centre of Applied Management, Cal Whitehead, says he anticipates nothing but growth in the wind and solar industries in Alberta in the near future. He adds Lethbridge College has been offering its Wind Turbine Technician Program for the past ten years and with the completion of the new Trades and Technologies facility, will be able to expand its intake as the industry demands. He says Canada is a little bit behind the European market so the province working to expand wind and solar industries is a very positive step. -Tina Giesbrecht
