Lethbridge Man Accused in Medicine Hat Meth Bust Granted Bail

Michael Abate, 28, was released on a $2500 cash recognizance with several conditions.

A man co-accused in Medicine Hat's largest meth seizure making his first appearance in court this week. Michael Abate, 28, from Lethbridge is charged with drug trafficking and possession of proceeds of crime after ALERT's organized crime team found more than a kilogram of meth and a smaller amount of cocaine during a planned vehicle stop just inside Medicine Hat city limits on December 8. Shonna Scriven, 47, from Medicine Hat has also been charged in connection to the bust. Abate was released on a $2500 cash recognizance under the conditions he live at a specified address in Surrey, BC, abide by a curfew, have no contact with Scriven and that he not own any mobile devices. Abate will be back in a Lethbridge courtroom January 22. -Sam Borsato
