Lethbridge Man Accused of Sex Crimes Against Teen Sets Trial Dates for 2020

A Lethbridge man accused of abducting and sexually assaulting a 13-year old girl will wait an entire year before going to trial.

Gary Lippa, 38, was in Lethbridge Court of Queen's Bench on Monday (Feb. 11).

His nine day long trial on several child luring, sexual assault and child pornography charges is scheduled to begin on February 18, 2020. Lippa has elected to be tried by judge and jury.

Lippa previously told the court that he has been denied by Legal Aid and that he can't afford to retain a lawyer on his own. He plans to conduct his trial by himself.

Due to the nature of the charges, however, he will not be allowed to cross examine the underage victim. A lawyer has been appointed to help with that part of the trial.

Lippa will be back in court March 25 to confirm his trial dates.
