Lethbridge MP says Prime Minister Not Doing Enough for Hurting Canola Producers

Rachael Harder says the federal government offering "a few extra dollars" is just not enough.

Lethbridge's Conservative Member of Parliament says the federal government needs to do a great deal more when it comes to the canola crisis.

Financial aid was announced last week to help those affected by China's decision to ban Canadian canola but Rachael Harder says it's not nearly enough.

She says canola exports account for about 5% of the country's total GDP and has a huge impact on local farmers here in the Lethbridge area and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau offering "a few extra dollars, is just not enough."

Harder says the PM needs to appoint an Ambassador immediately so Canada has an advocate in China building diplomatic relationships on behalf of producers.

Canada has been without an ambassador to China since January when John McCallum was fired.
