Lethbridge Police & Commission Complaints Director Flooded With Calls About Injured Deer Incident

A statement says "while we appreciate the many concerns that have been expressed to us, regrettably we do not have the capacity to respond directly to every individual call and message."

The Lethbridge Police Service (LPS) has issued a statement regarding a flood of calls received concerning the video of an officer and an injured deer.

 

The LPS and the Lethbridge Police Commission Public Complaints Director are receiving a significant volume of calls and currently has a large backlog of voicemails, emails and social media messages.

 

"We understand this situation is extremely upsetting to the community and those who have viewed the video have been deeply impacted. LPS takes this matter very seriously and can assure the public the incident is under full investigation by the Alberta Serious Incident Response Team with the assistance of both Alberta Fish and Wildlife and the Alberta SPCA.

 

While we appreciate the many concerns that have been expressed to us, regrettably we do not have the capacity to respond directly to every individual call and message.

 

We are asking the public to exercise patience to allow the independent investigation by ASIRT to progress without interference. Once the investigation has been completed, ASIRT will report publicly on the matter including a review of the evidence and any determinations made."

 

In order to protect the integrity of the ongoing ASIRT investigation, the Lethbridge Police Service and Lethbridge Police Commission are not permitted to comment further.
