Lethbridge Police say CRA Tax Season Scam Resurfacing

The CRA says it will never ask for personal information over email or text, or ask for payments via prepaid credit cards.

Tax season is quickly approaching and Lethbridge Police say they've already had a number of reports that the Canada Revenue Agency scam is making the rounds. The scammer will typically call people to tell them they're entitled to a refund and request personal information or that they owe a substantial amount of money and need to pay immediately or face a penalty. The CRA says it will never ask for personal information over email or text, or ask for payments via prepaid credit cards.
