Lethbridge Snow Clearing Crews Out and About Around the City

Southern Alberta is on for a good blast of winter, just in time for the Christmas travel season.

Southern Alberta is on for a good blast of winter, just in time for the Christmas travel season. Environment Canada's Dan Kulak says a Special Weather Statement for the region indicates a good dump of snow between now and Thursday. He says we could see upwards of 15cm of snow for Lethbridge and possibly 30cm or more in the foothills by Thursday. With that also comes a big drop in temperatures with daytime highs heading into the Christmas long weekend around -13 and overnight lows near -20.

This dump of snow is also keeping Lethbridge snow clearing crews busy. Transportation Operations Manager, Lee Perkins says crews were out laying down anti-icing material early Monday prior to the snow starting. As always, crews are tackling the busiest arterial roads first, called Priority 1 routes. They include Whoop Up Drive, Metis Trail, University Drive, Bridge Drive, Mayor Magrath Drive, Scenic Drive, 26 Avenue North, 28 Street North, 1st Avenue South (west of Scenic Drive), and 5th Avenue North (from Hwy 3 to Stafford Drive). The speed limit on Whoop-Up Drive has been dropped to 60 km/h until further notice. Perkins reminds everyone to adjust for the changing weather and drive for the conditions.
