LRPS Reacts To Planned Policing Change In Coaldale

The Chair of the Lethbridge Regional Police Commission says he's yet to hear from the town of Coaldale regarding their intentions to transfer policing from the LRPS to the RCMP.

It would appear the town of Coaldale has yet to indicate to Lethbridge city officials their intentions to transfer their community's policing from the Lethbridge Regional Police Service to the RCMP.  In a release issued on Tuesday the town revealed it's committed to seven full time RCMP officers, in what would be the new Coaldale Detachment.  Lethbridge Regional Police Commission Chair Sandy McKay tells CJOC News they've not been notified of the plan that would see RCMP assume control of policing in that community as of January, 2016.  McKay says that timeline would work, and adds the Commission will work to ensure a smooth transition if a changeover takes place. - Tom Roulston
