Murder Suspect Makes 1st Court Appearance

There was an odd twist to a Lethbridge man's first appearance in court Friday on a charge of second degree murder.  40 year old Lucien Crane Chief is charged in connection with the death of 37 year old Cynthia Badarm.  She died in hospital a couple of weeks ago after going into medical distress.  An autopsy determined she died as a result of blunt force trauma.  But in Provincial Court on Friday there was a strange coincidence, Badarm's name was called on a charge of shoplifting just before Crane Chief made his first appearance.  By procedure the Crown withdrew the charges against Badarm.  Meanwhile Crane Chief has been remanded in custody and will be back in court later this month. - Bryan Jeannotte
