New Copperwood Public School Design Revealed; Opening Fall of 2017

Construction plans were approved by Lethbridge District School Board trustees for the new Copperwood area school that will be home to a Family Centre branch.

Construction plans for a new westside public school were revealed this week. The new Copperwood-area elementary school, set to be located along Coalbanks Boulevard West, will cover 4900 square feet and be able to hold between 500 and 600 students. Lethbridge School Board Chair Mich Forster says the school will fill a void. He says all the public schools in West Lethbridge are filled to capacity, especially at the elementary and middle schol levels. Shovels will hit the dirt in June to start on construction, with completion scheduled for June 2017. Forster says the Copperwood school will reflect a 21st centuary learning environment. Lethbridge School District has partnered with both the City of Lethbridge and the Family Centre to enhance services to the Copperwood community. As part of the partnership with the Family Centre, the new school will host a Parent Link Centre. - Lynsay McMullan
