One Dead After Highway 3 Crash Between Lethbridge & Coaldale During Snow Storm

A 43 year old woman from Coaldale has died after the vehicle she was a passenger in slid into a semi truck at the Broxburn Road intersection.

One person is dead following a crash on Highway 3 between Lethbridge and Coaldale. It happened last Friday afternoon (Feb. 23) during extreme winter weather conditions at the Broxburn Road intersection. Coaldale RCMP says a 47 year old woman and a passenger were in a small car heading eastbound on Highway 3 when the vehicle tried to slow down, skidded and slammed into a semi truck hauling a flat deck trailer. The passenger, a 43 year old woman from Coaldale was taken to Chinook Regional Hospital where she died a few hours later. Her name is not being released. The driver of both the car and semi truck were not injured. RCMP says driving conditions at the time were extremely hazardous with strong wind, poor visibility, and blowing snow. Motorists are reminded to drive appropriate to the road conditions. To consider whether they need to be on the highways during winter storms and if so, to slow down to try to prevent these tragedies. - Pat Siedlecki
