Optimism Surrounding Crowsnest Pass Coal Mine Proposal

An Australian company has acquired close to $50 million worth of coal properties in southwest Alberta.

There's continued optimism in the Crowsnest Pass surrounding a potential coal mine development in that region.  Riversdale Resources, based in Australia has already aquired coal properties in the area worth close to $50 million.  Among them is Grassy Mountain north of Blairmore which could produce as much as four million tonnes of coal per year.  Crowsnest Pass Mayor Blair Painter tells CJOC News the proposal would have a major economic impact, in both employment as well as direct and indirect spinoffs.  There's still no timeline as to when the coal mining proposal could get approval. - Tom Roulston
