RCMP Investigating After Claresholm Town Councillor Assaulted in her Home

Donna Courage suffered minor injuries Saturday night when an unknown assailant burst through her door.

Claresholm RCMP are investigating after a town councillor in that community was reportedly assaulted during a break-in at her home over the weekend. Donna Courage suffered a black eye, cuts on her head and arms, and bruises and welts on her neck after an unknown assailant burst through her door Saturday night. Courage recounted to the Calgary Herald that the suspect told her to "keep quiet and leave town" and then fled her home. The Town of Claresholm issued a press release Tuesday afternoon, with Mayor Doug MacPherson stating that council fully supports its council member and does not condone the behaviour exhibited in the incident. He adds every member of Council should feel free to voice their opinions without fear of repercussions. The police investigation is ongoing and the Town of Claresholm says it will not be commenting further. -Tina Giesbrecht with files from the Calgary Herald
