Roller Coaster Weekend Weather Setting Up For Alberta

Map from the Weather Network shows a drastic swing in the weekend weather for Alberta & BC

Intense heat, wind, thunderstorms, and potentially a good dump of rain are all part of what is expected to be a crazy weekend for weather in the province.

A wild weekend of weather is setting up across western Canada.

Environment Canada's Dan Kulak says after hot and breezy conditions Friday and Saturday (June 8-9), an intense cold front moving through Saturday evening is likely to trigger off some severe thunderstorms for Alberta. He says where those storms will be most severe is anyone's guess right now. He says that'll become a little clearer heading into Saturday.

The noticeable difference will be Sunday into Monday in southern Alberta. With the big swing in weather, Kulak says early indications are the Lethbridge area could see 20 to 30 mm of rain over those two days with daytime temperatures drastically falling to only the mid teens. Conditions are expected to rebound by the middle of next week.

Out west, parts of British Columbia are for a similar weather change. As the cold front moves into Alberta this weekend, higher elevations like the Coquihalla Highway could see some snow along with periods of heavy rain. - Pat Siedlecki
