Construction is progressing very well on two major road projects on the west side.

Some good news on a couple of major west side road projects. The second stage of Metis Trail is now officially complete and open for traffic, providing a new direct link between Whoop-Up Drive and Garry Drive West. The City of Lethbridge says construction has been progressing well. This new section of Metis Trail also provides new access to Indian Battle Heights via Blackfoot Road. As for the Whoop-Up Drive twinning project, the eastbound lanes have been completed between 30th Street West all the way to Blackfoot Road. Construction activity is now being focused on the section between the new Metis Trail and Jerry Potts Boulevard. Single-lane traffic in each direction is being maintained in this area while underground work takes place along the original lanes of Whoop-Up Drive until mid-October. Work will continue until freeze-up later this fall and then resume in the spring. During the winter months, all new sections of Whoop-Up Drive will be open to four lanes of traffic. Both projects are on schedule to be fully complete by this time next year. - Pat Siedlecki
