Taber Equality Alliance Society Asking to Raise Pride Flag for a Second Year

The Taber Equality Alliance Society hopes to raise the flag by June 2, 2018 in time for Taber's second Pride in the Park celebration.

The Taber Equality Alliance Society (TEA) asking town council to once again raise the rainbow pride flag in Confederation Park next year. The first Pride in the Park celebration this past spring was not well-received by some, with the flag being stolen and burned on two separate occasions in June. However, Johnathan Strojwas, who's a member of the Equality Alliance Society steering committee, says they won't let that deter them. He notes that raising the rainbow flag is an important show of support for the LGBTQ community in Taber. The TEA hopes to raise the flag by June 2, 2018 in time for Taber's second Pride in the Park celebration and keep it there for the entire month. However, there is some concern about how long the flag would be up, with councillors saying they must take other celebrations and groups into consideration that want to use the Confederation Park pole in June. Town council is anticipated to make a decision by the end of January. -Sam Borsato
