Trial Expected to Continue for Lethbridge Mother Accused of Abducting Son After Months of Delays

A trial continuation is expected to be scheduled next month for a Lethbridge woman accused of abducting her infant son and fleeing to Central America five years ago.

The woman, who cannot be named to protect the identity of the child, is charged with one count of child abduction. She was arrested in July 2017 in Belize, and arrived back in Canada days later.

Officials from the Belize Police Department and the country's immigration department already provided their testimony in this case last November. The 34-year old mother also gave her side of the story during that same hearing.

The case will be back in Lethbridge Provincial Court on May 16, when the woman's lawyer is expected to set dates for the trial to continue.
