Four hundred people were treated to an engaging and inspirational talk Thursday at the U of L by a well-known Canadian TV sports personality.
A highly inspirational speech at the University of Lethbridge Pronghorn Scholarship Breakfast Thursday (Sept. 28). Canadian Broadcaster Michael Landsberg, who's been a fixture on TSN for several years, brought his message about depression and mental illness to the stage. Landsberg says he's suffered for many years from depression and notes it's something no one should ever be ashamed about. He says he would like people to use his openness and have it be their openness. Landsberg asked the crowd of 400 people how many of them had either been touched by mental illness themselves or through someone else and almost every single person raised their hand. Landsberg has been encouraging dialogue around mental health issues for years now. He says talking about these issues are more important than any Off The Record show or TSN SportsCentre he's hosted in his broadcasting career. You can find out more information on Landberg's talks by visiting: Sick Not Weak. The yearly breakfast is a key fundraiser for U of L Pronghorn Athletics. - Pat Siedlecki
