Verdict Expected in March for Historic Sex Crimes Youth Trial

A Raymond man who admitted to sexually touching alleged victims will be handed his trial verdict next month.

The 50-year old cannot be named since the offences reportedly happened when he was a teen in the 1980s, and also to protect the names of the victims.

His youth trial came to an end in January, with the defence inviting guilty convictions to three counts of sexual assault and one of indecent assault.

The judge is expected to give his final verdict on March 4, and will also determine at that time which sentencing regime they plan to use.

The defence says the accused should be sentenced under the former Juvenile Delinquents and Young Offenders Acts, while the Crown is advocating for a sentence under the current Youth Criminal Justice Act.

The accused has another adult trial scheduled from November 4 to 15, 2019, on four counts of sexual assault and one count of sexual interference.
