Snow clearing was brought up during Lethbridge City Council's meeting Monday.
City of Lethbridge crews are working around the clock dealing with this latest blast of winter. City Councillor Blaine Hyggen brought up snow clearing at Monday's Council meeting (Feb. 5). Infrastructure Services Director, Doug Hawkins says crews are doing the best they can. He says barring another dump of snow (which is possible Thursday), crews have a good seven days of work ahead just dealing with the 23 cm which fell Saturday and Sunday. Hawkins told Council all of the City's available equipment is deployed and soon contract crews will be brought in to help remove the snow off priority routes. He also encourages the public to call 403-320-3850 Public Operations Line if they have specific concerns. Hawkins says with the amount of snow that fell this past weekend, the City could use twice the amount of equipment it has. He notes it's a balancing act between the budget and the resources. The City of Lethbridge does rely heavily on contractor operations like hired trucks, graders, and plows to assist after significant snow events like this. - Pat Siedlecki
